Manju and Rochani are a mother-daughter team who love to share their culinary and cultural traditions with travelers. Rochani is a student studying banking and Manju is a homemaker who makes sure every ingredient she uses is handpicked and every masala is made at home. You will be greeted by Manju and her daughter Rochani who live in a classic Kathmandu family home built by Rochani’s grandfather, with gardens in the front and back of the home. Manju learned to cook family recipes which have been passed down from her grandmother, who cooked for the king of Nepal. Join Manju and Rochani for an authentic home-cooked Nepali meal. You will snack on appetizers with Rochani, Manju and her husband Bijaya and before sitting down to enjoy your traditional Nepali meal over conversation and stories about growing up in Nepal. Your meal might include dishes such as woh (pan fried lentil patties), momos (Nepali dumplings), traditional Nepali chicken curry, choyla (marinated red meat in a spiced onion and tomato gravy), dried pea masala or mixed achar (Nepali pickled and spiced vegetables), and end with a traditional Nepali dessert and tea. If you book a cooking experience, you can expect to join Manju and Rochani in their kitchen to learn to prepare two to three traditional Nepali dishes; you will enjoy them along with other dishes that have been prepared in advance for your meal. Please note: As maps can be confusing in Nepal it is best to have your driver call your host to ask for specific directions to their home when they are en route.
